Big banyan

The mighty banyan on T Narsipur  road.  It takes up much of farm space; and it can’t be brought down. For the tree is worshiped  by  folks in neighbouring villages.

Kanakadasa jayanthi

A hoarding of  Kanakadasa,  16th century poet, philospher and composer,  towers over Ramaswamy Circle.  District admin. in Mysore reportedly made it mandatory for its staff to attend the  Kanakadasa Jayanthi celebrations at Kalamandira. Media reported that govt. enployees were asked to sign an attendance register kept at the venue.

I didn’t notice this earlier, the roof-top wind turbine at the Institute of Engineers, JLB Road.

A plaque  at the  Karanji  Lake , Mysore. The restoration work apparently did not take into account the possibility of over-flow from the lake that flooded the zoo,  following the recent  rains

The signpost on JLB Rd., at Ramaswamy Circle, sums up the city  for a tourist – the palace, the zoo and the Chamundi Hill.

Sidewalk shrine

Such pavement structures ,  dedidcated to one’s favoured deity,  are a common sight in town. This one has apparently been put up by the fans of late Harshavardhana, a Kannada movie star who hailed from Mysore.

Hat-seller

Business, it appears,  is not brisk for these shop-owners in front of the Ranganatha temple,  Srirangapatna. They cater to tourists. Most of them stop-by,  haggle over price, and  move on,  says a shop owner.
